Are you thinking of starting a blog but don’t know where to begin? You’re not alone. In fact, many people want to start blogging but never take the plunge because they feel like they don’t have the experience or knowledge required. That’s why I wrote this quick and easy step-by-step guide – to help beginners like you get started with blogging, regardless of your experience level!
In this post...
There are many blogging platforms out there, but the most popular platform is WordPress. I use WordPress for my own blogs and find the software extremely user-friendly. If you’re not sure which one to choose, I recommend reading this article that compares some of the most popular platforms. Once you’ve decided on a platform, it’s time to move on to step two.
Your domain name is the web address people will use to find your blog (for example, my blog’s domain name is jennaturner.co). Once you’ve chosen a domain name, you need to find a hosting company that will host your blog. I recommend using SiteGround because they’re one of the most secure and reliable hosting companies out there, and they offer the best customer service in the market. That’s a huge plus for beginner bloggers! If you chose to host a blog with WordPress, you can connect your domain and hosting all through integrations directly in SiteGround.
The next step is to choose a design for your blog. If you’re using WordPress, there are tons of free and paid themes available. Once you’ve found a theme you like, it’s time to install it on your blog.
If you’re not using WordPress, there are still plenty of ways to design your blog. You can find HTML templates online or hire a designer to create a custom design for you. I designed my website myself using Showit. Their design software takes a little bit of skill that can be learned without needing to know how to code a website. Just remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect, just get started somewhere!
Once you’ve designed your blog, it’s time to start writing. If you’re not sure what to write about, try brainstorming a list of ideas before you get started. Once you have a topic in mind, sit down and write a few paragraphs about it.
Don’t worry if your first blog post isn’t perfect. You can always go back and edit it later. Just get something down on paper (or screen) and hit publish.
You’ve now successfully started a blog with no experience. Just remember to keep writing, promoting your blog, and growing your audience, and you’ll be well on your way to blogging success.
